Salmonella infantis in cattle feedlot runoff.
Ten isolates of Salmonella infantis (serologically typed) were found in litter and runoff collected from two experimental feedlots near the Kansas State University campus. Pathogenic implications are discussed relative to recreation water sites. Agricultural runoff maybe a source of viable salmonellae.
متن کاملFEEDLOT MANAGEMENT Matching Cattle Type and Feedlot Performance
Correct projection of breakeven prices is essential to profitable cattle feeding. In order to calculate breakevens correctly, feedlot performance must be predicted accurately. Average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion (F/G), days on feed, carcass characteristics, morbidity and mortality can vary greatly from one group of cattle to another. This paper will revie...
متن کاملRoughage Levels in Feedlot Rations
vitro digestibility tended to be greater with ammoniation. In the second trial, very high levels of ammonia, urea or glucose were added. Levels of insoluble protein were much higher in this trial than the other. This reflects the high variability of corn silage. Recovery of nitrogen added as ammonia averaged 82 percent while all of the nitrogen added as urea was recovered. The amounts of insolu...
متن کاملSalinomycin Levels For Feedlot Steers and Heifers
A new feed additive, salinomycin, was fed to 70 finishing steers (initial weight of 772lb) and 70 finishing heifers (initial weight of 4951b) for 139 and 145 days, respectively. Salinomycin was fed at 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 g per ton of a ground corn based diet. Averaged across salinomycin levels, gain was increased 2.6 percent and efficiency of feed use was improved by 7.8 percent. Feed intake w...
متن کاملImproving sheep feedlot management
This paper summarises six studies undertaken by the Sheep CRC to elucidate certain aspects of confinement feeding of sheep. A review of confinement feeding highlighted the variability of growth rate and feed conversion of sheep and revealed that little is known about the use of sorghum for feeding sheep. The review indicated that the main factors responsible for variation of growth rate and fee...
